Donnell House

The historic William T. Donnell House is newly renovated and open to the public for tours from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Tours run daily on the hour from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and offer a glimpse into the life of a ship builder living in the bustling seaport of Bath, Maine in the late 1890s.

As you explore the house you’ll learn that William T. Donnell purchased the shipyard from his mother-in-law in 1869 and partnered with Gardiner G. Deering, creating the Deering & Donnell Shipyard. Between 1869 and 1886, Donnell oversaw the building of 63 wooden sailing vessels, the majority being schooners. During this time, Donnell bucked the trend and instead of moving to a more stately address, he lived with a shipyard in the backyard. His family and their role in Bath, Maine are uniquely displayed.
