Stew founded Vreeland Marketing & Design in 1978 and serves as the agency’s creative catalyst. His creativity has given a unique stamp to such statewide brands as Efficiency Maine and Mechanical Services.
While working with Efficiency Maine, he played a key role in developing their creative identity, which included writing and producing a multi award-winning television commercial for the Efficiency Maine Residential Lighting Program. Additionally, Stew developed an energy efficiency focus for our statewide HVAC client, Mechanical Services, which has been key in building the company’s business.
Clients benefit from Stew’s experience in design, copywriting, digital media, radio and TV production — and blogging that has inspired pick-up of Vreeland clients, including coverage by The New York Times. Stew is also adept at online media production, giving Vreeland clients the unique flexibility to produce real-time television spots that tailor their message to changing market conditions. His award-winning Efficiency Maine CFL :30 TV spot was created on Stew’s laptop!
Stew began his marketing career as an art director and TV producer at J. Walter Thompson in Chicago. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at St. Joseph’s College, Standish, Maine, and does pro bono work for the non-profit Spannocchia Foundation near Siena, Italy.
Stew has a long-standing love affair with everything Italian. He speaks the language and created SeeYouInItaly.com, which markets central Italian real estate and provides buyers from the U.S., the U.K., Europe and Asia with everything they need to know to buy in Italy.
Stew holds an M.A. in Advertising Journalism from Northwestern University and a B.F.A. in Commercial Art with a minor in Advertising Journalism from Drake University. He attended the Universita per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy, for language and cultural studies.
He has been honored for his creative work with the Maine Advertising Club’s Conwell Award, as well as the Maine Public Relations Council Golden Arrow, Maine Ad Club Broderson Awards for Creativity and Boston Ad Club Hatch Awards.
